My hypothetical consist of the following:
A young woman married woman at 31 yrs of age was excepting her first child. The woman is married, middle class, and English are there first language. Both the woman and her husband are college graduates.
The woman was diagnosed with preeclampsia and the baby was delivered early at 31 weeks old. The woman suffered from an enlarged heart, high blood pressure,. Two weeks after giving birth, the woman suffered from kidney failure. During this time, the baby was in the NIC Unit. Premature babies have to be at a certain weight before they can leave the hospital, and also breath on their own.
The early invention steps that would be discussed are services that would assist the parents along with immediate family members on how to start early childhood development such as receiving services within the community for children being born early. For example, reviewing the cognitive developmental stages and also being aware of the baby's gestational age difference.
Services the woman should receive are health and nutrition while being pregnant along with strengthening families of becoming first time parents and how daily life will change (for the better).

ReplyDeleteI would like to know what type of cognitive delays that have started to show up in the child, I know several premature babies that have cognitive delays, cerebral palsy, hearing loss, etc or have no delays at all. What services are provided for the child health, educational, support all run through which agency/agencies. What type of services would the mother receive as far as education on birth especially for future pregnancies.

First the mother health is important for the baby. The mother will need help from social work at hospital. The baby will need early invention services we it come home from hospital. Also the father may need help with deal with the issues with his family. A support system for family is good.
ReplyDeleteThe testing would be during the pregnancy stages of when require testing for the fetus is to take place. During this time, the mother and father will receive educational resources from the physical about child develop of infants and also to contact the pediatrician. It is important to have additional support especially from family in order to prepare for the upcoming year with a premature baby.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing is what if any prenatal care did the mother receive? Have she sought out a facility to care for the child if you the mother decide to return to work. Also identifying the babies delays right away can help with the early intervention program. I would recommend definite involvement in the planning of services and you and your husbands participation in the care of the baby once they go home. See if you can receive home visitation for first time moms as well as therapy for the baby once they arrive home.
